If you wear an Apple Watch and ever thought how useful it would be if it warned you if you were going to leave your iPhone behind, you’ll be glad the new feature in iOS 15 will do just that.

In this article, we will explain how to make the watch notify you when you leave your iPhone with or without iOS 15.

How to get an alert if you forget your iPhone?

The good news is you don’t have to wait for iOS 15. There is an app that can alert you if you leave your iPhone behind.

The Phone Buddy app (£ 4.99 / $ 4.99 on the App Store) monitors the Bluetooth connection between your iPhone and Apple Watch. If your iPhone is no longer able to find a signal, your watch will alert you that your iPhone is out of range.

You can install an app complication on the Apple Watch face.

In our test, the app works reliably: we received a loud warning when we went down one floor in the stairwell.

A few meters away on the same floor, the app showed a weak Bluetooth signal, but it didn’t alert us.

The sensitivity of the alert can be adjusted in the iPhone settings. The manufacturer recommends setting the signal strength to 26 percent due to the many walls and other wireless devices that can interfere with the signal.

The app is compatible with Apple Watch (watchOS 5 or later, Apple Watch Series 2 or later).

How to use iOS 15 and watchOS 8OS separation alerts

When iOS 15 arrives in September, Apple will roll out the new “Notify When You Left Behind” feature in iOS 15 and watchOS 8.

The new system will also notify you if you leave an AirTag or other Apple device.

You’ll be able to set this up using the Find My app to receive alerts if you go outside of your selected devices and items.

When you select the items you want to be alerted about and the locations you want (or not) to receive alerts.

You can also choose how far you need to be before receiving the alert.

Once set up, you will be notified when you exceed the set distance from the device. Never forget your iPhone again!.
